Our Background
ANZA is the peak body for New Zealand advertisers, representing brand owners across all sectors. We are part of the co-regulatory advertising system, working alongside industry and government to support a transparent, responsible and effective advertising environment. ANZA also administers specialist pre-vetting services, including TAPS and LAPPS, helping advertisers ensure compliance before campaigns go live.
ANZA’s Governance and Industry Role
ANZA plays an active role in shaping how advertising operates in New Zealand.
Beyond representing advertisers, ANZA contributes directly to governance, standards and policy across the industry.
-
The Association of New Zealand Advertisers holds representation on the Board of the Advertising Standards Authority.
This ensures that the perspective of advertisers is included in:

Oversight of the self-regulatory system
The ongoing development of a fair and effective advertising environment
ANZA’s involvement helps maintain balance between commercial freedom and responsible advertising.
-
ANZA contributes to the development and review of advertising rules through participation in ASA Codes Committees.
These committees are responsible for:
Developing new advertising codes
Reviewing existing codes
Updating standards to reflect changes in media, technology and consumer expectations
Through this work, ANZA helps ensure that advertising standards are:
Practical for advertisers
Aligned with industry realities
Responsive to emerging issues
-
ANZA regularly makes submissions to government and regulatory bodies on issues that impact advertisers.
This includes areas such as:

Media ownership and competition
Category-specific advertising restrictions
These submissions ensure that the voice of advertisers is represented in policy decisions that shape the industry.
