Mobile ad spend in New Zealand almost doubled from $2.83 million in 2012 to $5.60 million in 2013 and industry experts say it's going to do the same again in 2014.

Mark Copplestone, Chair of the IABNZ Mobile Advertising Council (MAC) says, Growth is being driven by the rapid adoption of smartphones and tablets. In New Zealand, 80% of all mobile phones being sold are smartphones.

In Australia, mobile advertising played a key role in growing the overall online advertising market, contributing around 41% of the total growth experienced in 2013. Earlier this year, Facebook announced that mobile revenue accounted for more than half of Facebook's total ad revenue while globally, ZenithOptimedia estimate that mobile advertising will grow seven times faster than desktop internet.
