The rise of programmatic trading with its instantaneous buying and selling of advertising space, while convenient, has resulted in space inadvertently being bought for brands on websites that are inappropriate, offensive or even illegal.

Several high-profile global brands have already fallen victim to this, resulting in public condemnation and reputational damage -- as well as risking legal action.

So what steps can advertisers take to prevent such damage?
