ANZA's 2009 Prominent Speakers Forum "Welcome to the Future: Unleash a Legacy"
We began this year's forum with Leigh Terry (OMD Australia) who spoke of the media change reaction and how our ever-increasing interconnectivity will generate a value network as branded content and social media gain mass market traction. Leigh was followed by Todd McLeay (New Zealand Lotteries Commission) who demonstrated how the negative mindset around "mature" product categories can be defeated through consumer relevant brand transformation and continuous improvement. Julian Moore (New Zealand Trade & Enterprise) challenged us to consider how Brand New Zealand and our national characteristics can shape the destiny of our own brands. Then Joe Talcott (News Limited) demonstrated that despite technological changes, for advertisers, the message remains the message. Finally Kate Terry (The Nielsen Company) reminded advertisers of just how positively the majority of New Zealand consumers think of Advertising.
ANZA was delighted to host the highly successful 2009 Prominent Speakers Forum, "Unleash a Legacy". Feedback has been unanimous. This was the best forum yet.
Grateful thanks to our event sponsors, New Zealand Post, Sky Television, Yahoo!xtra, Telecom and Television New Zealand.

ANZA's Prominent Speakers Forum November 2008
The annual Prominent Speakers' Forum organised by the Association of New Zealand Advertisers took place in Auckland in November. Called "Welcome To The Future - Have You Saved Your Brand A Place?", the forum showcased the latest thinking on the future direction of brand marketing communication in New Zealand and across the globe, with an exceptional line-up of local and international speakers.
Speakers included:
• International marketing and advertising guru Prof. Robert Lauterborn from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with an insightful presentation on ‘The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same', and how advertisers need to shift their focus from ‘talking about something' to ‘talking to someone'
• Vodafone NZ CEO Russell Stanners, who spoke on the rapidly developing area of mobile advertising
• New Zealand Post, CEO John Allen, who gave an inspiring presentation on how we can and should develop closer business relations with our neighbours across the Tasman
• Tim Flattery, Group Director, Carat Engage, Sydney, who provided an unique insight into Tourism Australia's ground-breaking partnership with Baz Lurhmann's epic movie Australia
• Janet Mazenier, Strategy & Development Consultant, Catalyst IT Ltd, who demonstrated the advantages of online and how improved communications technology will increasingly benefit New Zealand businesses.
• and Rick Ellis, CEO, TVNZ, who showed that even in an increasingly digital world, TV remains a hugely dynamic medium for brand assurance.
The views discussed at the Forum struck a chord with guests and marketing media alike. The Forum was featured in The Independent, the NBR, Fastline and Marketing Magazine, as well as marketing commentator Simon Young's online blog.
Prof Robert Lauterborn also spoke with Michael Wilson of TV3's ASB Business programme on the future of advertising.
The great success of the 2008 event means the quest is now on to find more exceptional speakers for next year's Forum. ANZA will announce details later in 2009 - stay tuned.
ANZA would like to thank the sponsors of the 2008 Forum - TVNZ, New Zealand Post Mail Marketing Service and Vodafone. Congratulations also to Bill Moore from Progressive Enterprises, who was drawn as the lucky winner of a brand new Blackberry Storm courtesy of Vodafone.

Consumer Research
The Association of New Zealand Advertisers (ANZA) Consumer Segmentation Research project was commissioned mid 2007 and has been coordinated by consultant Nick Jones, Nick Jones & Associates.
The Foundation for Advertising Research (FAR) revised all relevant literature and produced the valuable document "Consumer Attitudes towards advertising in General by Generational Phase". This research was studied by the ANZA Council and Nielsen Media Research who were then commissioned to undertake a comprehensive study of New Zealand consumers' attitudes.
